Financialization of nature (Real World Radio)

Radio clips by organisations that oppose the financialization of nature

There is currently a fierce debate on whether the environment should be valued as natural capital. Critics reject the concept of natural capital saying nature has an intrinsic value which is priceless. They argue that placing a monetary value on nature could mean it becomes “cheaper” to destroy an ecosystem than to look after it.

They say the objective of natural capital is to make it into a new commodity that can then be speculated on.
